Redding Auto Accident Kills One

On Tuesday, February 11, 2020, one person suffered fatal trauma during a Redding auto accident. The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as 85-year-old Ann May Schwartz of Redding. Officials from the Redding Police Department (RPD) indicated that the accident involved two vehicles and happened in the afternoon on the northwestern side of the city.

Crash Details

RPD stated that the collision happened at 2:16 p.m. at the intersection of Eureka Way and Whiskeytown Court. According to accident witnesses who spoke to police at the scene, Ms. Schwartz had been driving a 2017 Buick and was pulling out of a driveway on the northern side of Eureka. She reportedly attempted to turn left in order to head east when the Buick was struck by a westbound 2017 Volkswagen traveling in the right-hand lane. Police reports indicated that the Volkwagen driver, identified as a 26-year-old Redding woman, attempted to swerve in order to avoid the crash, but was unable to do so. The Volkswagen ultimately crashed head-on into the driver’s side of the Buick.

When emergency officials arrived at the crash site, they found that Ms. Schwartz had suffered serious trauma. She was placed on an ambulance and rushed to the Mercy Medical Center for emergency care. Tragically, she passed away while in hospital custody. The Volkswagen driver reportedly complained of pain at the crash scene but was not hospitalized.

Investigation

RPD is looking into causes that could have been part of this collision. So far, police have indicated that airbags were deployed in both vehicles and that both drivers had been wearing their seatbelt. Furthermore, officers have stated that they do not suspect either driver of being under the influence at the time of the crash. However, no suspected accident factors have been reported.

Collisions in which one or more drivers pass away can be difficult for officials to investigate. Because the decedent can’t tell investigators their side of the story, it’s likely that officers will overlook one or more important accident factors. In order to ensure that the crash is investigated to the fullest extent possible, the best thing you can do is work with a Redding wrongful death lawyer who has experience privately investigating accidents.
