Early Morning Accident Fatally Injures Vacaville Driver

I’m Ed Smith, a Vacaville car accident lawyer. Last week in American Canyon, on Friday, February 17, 2017, a Vacaville man lost his life due to fatal injuries received in a car accident.

Accident Details

The collision occurred just around 6:20 a.m. on Highway 12, only a short distance west of the exit for Red Top Road. Dave Harvey, an officer from the Solano office of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the incident. Harvey reported that the victim of the crash had been a 23-year-old resident of Vacaville. Harvey also indicated that the driver had been driving an Acura sedan made in the year 2000 and was traveling west on Highway 12 in the second lane from the right when the accident occurred. Harvey reported that the driver apparently lost control of their vehicle, causing it to veer across the roadway into the eastbound section of the highway, and, finally, off of the roadway completely and into the shoulder of the highway where he collided with a streetlight pole. Harvey also noted that the roadway was wet at the time of the accident due to the recent heavy rains that affected the whole county.

Injuries

The victim of the crash was found at the site of the collision with traumatic injuries and was immediately transported by ambulance to a local trauma center for treatment of what responding medical officials described as blunt trauma. After staying in the hospital for three days, doctors were not able to keep the victim alive and he was pronounced dead on Monday, February 20, 2017.

Causal Factors

The factors leading to the incident are not entirely known and are under active investigation. The CHP has not reported that driving under the influence had anything to do with the collision. Whether or not the driver was driving erratically, speeding, or distracted is not known. The wetness of the road seems to have played a role in the driver’s losing control of the vehicle and it is possible that hydroplaning could have been a key factor.

Driving in the Rain

Storms in the Solano area have contributed to several injury and fatal crashes over the past few months. Driving in the rain presents serious risks to drivers. Rain can reduce visibility and make it harder for drivers to react quickly to changing roadway conditions. When driving on wet roadways it is important to remain especially alert. Additionally, reducing speed on wet or rainy roadways reduces the risk of being involved in a collision.
