Driver Rescued After Vehicle Careens into Feather River

On Wednesday, March 10, 2021, a driver suffered serious injuries after her vehicle plunged into the Feather River. The incident was first reported by officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP), who stated that it happened in the morning and was a solo-vehicle accident. According to reports, the driver was hospitalized after emergency responders performed a rescue mission. No other individuals were reported to have been involved in this crash.

Crash Details

According to officials, the accident happened just after 7:30 a.m. on Highway 70 near the small community of Cresta. A black sedan was driving on the highway when, for reasons that are still under investigation, the driver apparently lost control of her vehicle. As a result, the sedan drove off the highway and careened down an embankment into the feather river. Photos of the wreck show the vehicle partially submerged just off of the river’s bank among some snowy bramble.

Reports indicate that Firefighters with Butte County Cal Fire and a swift water rescue team both assisted with accident response. According to police, the driver was able to extricate herself from her vehicle and was driven via ambulance to a local hospital to receive medical treatment. Afterward, the swift water team worked to remove the crashed car from the river.

Investigation

CHP states that they are still investigating what factors could have been involved with the accident, but indicated that they believe dangerous roadway conditions could have been a contributing cause. Snowfall had reportedly stuck to the pavement, leading to slick and unsafe roads, and both Cal Fire and the Butte County Sheriff’s Office had advised drivers to proceed with caution and drive slowly on local roads. Additionally, Caltrans has reported multiple incidents of snowy-road related spinouts and collisions along this particular stretch of Highway 70 over the past few days.

Accident Damages

After suffering injuries in a car accident, survivors might face a difficult situation. Being injured usually means paying for medical care, which can be highly expensive. Depending on your injuries, you may need surgeries, medications, physical therapy, or possibly even help around the house while you recover. Furthermore, an accident injury can impair your mobility or cognition, potentially leading to lost wages and making it even harder to pay for your medical care.

Fortunately, many people can obtain compensation for these losses by filing a personal injury claim. Personal injury claims seek to hold insurance companies and at-fault parties financially responsible for damages suffered during accidents and often provide full compensation for losses like medical expenses, damaged property, lost income, and more.

To learn about what you can recover for your accident case, you should always seek advice from an experienced attorney. Because most lawyers will offer a free phone consultation, there is nothing to lose by reaching out for help.
