Vehicle Crashes Into Fence in Palmer House Drive Accident

A single-vehicle crash on September 30 in South Sacramento resulted in at least one reported injury after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The collision occurred along Palmer House Drive between McMullen and Skander ways when a vehicle crashed into a fence at a residential property. According to the incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), although the parties in the vehicle were able to get out, one person was reported to be completely disoriented.

Single-Vehicle Crash Investigated to Determine Cause

An emergency response team with the Sacramento Fire Department was called to examine that person and others for injuries. The vehicle sustained major front-end damage from the crash. The CHP is determining what caused the collision.

Causes of a Single-Vehicle Crash

Most of the time, a single-vehicle crash is caused by driver negligence. A common cause is speeding because a driver whose vehicle is going above the speed limit for the road is more likely to lose control. Other reasons a single-vehicle crash occurs include drunk driving, being distracted due to texting or some other cause.

However, there are other reasons for a single-vehicle crash that involve another driver or outside influence. When this occurs, the injured party may be able to place a claim for compensation from whoever was at fault. Some of these outside influences are:

  • Hit-and-run drivers: Unfortunately, there are many drivers these days who cause an accident and then flee the scene. An injury lawyer can determine whether another driver was present and then fled. This is done by performing accident reconstruction, interviewing witnesses, looking for traffic camera footage, and using other investigative techniques. If it turns out that a hit-and-run driver did cause the accident, the lawyer can work toward identifying the vehicle and motorist. The lawyer can then negotiate for the client with the at-fault party’s insurance company or take the case to court to recover damages.
  • Government neglect: A government entity is supposed to take care of the design and maintenance of a roadway to make it safe for drivers, pedestrians, and others. Some types of negligence that can lead to a single-vehicle crash include potholes, fissures in the pavement, poorly lit areas, tree limbs that overhang traffic signs and others. If it is discovered that government negligence caused the accident, they can be held financially liable for any injuries because of it. The statute of limitations for filing a claim against a government entity is much shorter than for other personal injuries. Enlisting the help of an injury lawyer can ensure the paperwork is completed properly and filed within that timeline. Otherwise, the court will dismiss the claim for compensation.
  • Mechanical defects: A mechanical defect in a vehicle can often lead to a single-vehicle crash because the driver cannot maintain control. Defects can occur in the braking system, accelerator, steering column, or motor itself. It is important after an injury accident to retain the vehicle so that it can be examined by an engineer to determine if a defective part was the cause. If it was, an auto product liability claim can be placed against the manufacturer and others involved in the production line. A personal injury lawyer can assist by compiling the evidence needed to support the claim and negotiate with the manufacturer for the damages that you deserve.
