Dixon Woman Fatally Injured in Local Crash
Dixon Woman Fatally Injured in Local Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Dixon personal injury lawyer. According to information reported by local authorities, an area woman was left with fatal injuries after a recent two-vehicle accident. The crash took place on a local highway off-ramp on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. The accident also reportedly left three individuals with injuries requiring hospital care. Solano County officials identified the woman who passed away as a result of the crash as Tonya Long, a 64-year-old resident of Dixon.

My support and sympathy are extended to those who are currently mourning the loss of their family member and friend due to this tragic incident.

Collision Information

California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash took place shortly before 10:35 a.m. at the Highway 113 off-ramp from Highway Interstate 80 near Dixon. The Dixon woman had been driving north on Highway 113 when she made a left turn onto the off-ramp, traveling into oncoming traffic.

After making the turn, the Honda continued across the highway and traveled over an elevated dirt shoulder. The vehicle then drove off of the shoulder and became airborne, traveling over the eastbound lanes of I-80 as well as the highway median. The vehicle eventually crashed into westbound lanes, colliding with an oncoming Dodge Dart. After striking the Dart, the Honda rolled over several times and eventually came to a stop on the northern highway shoulder.

Response

Emergency responders were immediately sent to the site of the crash by CHP. Medics at the scene reported that the Honda driver tragically passed away before she could be given medical care.

Responders found three occupants in the Dodge, including a 62-year-old man, a 54-year-old woman, and a 9-year-old boy. All of the Dodge occupants are residents of Fair Oaks. The man was found with severe injuries, the woman with minor injuries, and the boy with moderate injuries. All three were taken to a nearby hospital in Vacaville to receive treatment.

Investigation

Traffic near the accident scene was slowed severely as a result of the incident. CHP officers closed highway lanes while response was underway and kept them closed for initial investigations. Work crews had cleared the highway of vehicle wreckage by 12:10 p.m., according to SigAlert data.

CHP reports that they are still in the process of investigating possible causes of this accident. So far, officers have not reported any suspected factors that may have caused the woman to drive off of the roadway. Causes that are frequently involved in accidents such as this one include medical emergencies, defective car parts, driver distraction, and more.
