Dixon Motorcycle Accidents

I’m Ed Smith, a Dixon motorcycle accident attorney. While Dixon is a relatively small city with a population of only just under 20,000, it is still the site of multiple injury-related motorcycle accidents every year.

Even if you are not a motorcycle enthusiast, knowing the statistics regarding the circumstances of vehicle collisions in your area can help you understand how to best avoid them. Those who regularly spend time driving on Dixon roads may be interested in reading the statistics included in the following blog article.

Motorcycle Crash Overview

According to published data compiled by UC Berkeley researchers, a total of 35 motorcycle accidents resulting in traumatic injuries occurred in the city of Dixon between the beginning of 2006 and the end of 2016. These 35 collisions involved no pedestrians or bicyclists, and nearly one-third of them occurred on a state-operated highway running through city limits.

Injuries

None of the 35 accidents resulted in any fatal injuries, but 40 different people were left with injuries ranging widely in severity. Six accidents left involved individuals with severe traumatic injuries, 18 left individuals with moderate trauma, and 11 involved only complaints of pain.  Of the 35 motorcycle accidents resulting in injury, only five encluded passengers.

The data shows that men were injured much more frequently than women in these collisions, with males accounting for more than 75 percent of the injured individuals. The age ranges at which people were most often injured in Dixon motorcycle accidents were 20-24, and 30-39. The least common age ranges were 0-19 and people aged over 60.

Common Crash Violations

Oftentimes, auto accidents are the result of drivers who violate the rules of the road. In Dixon, the case is no different. The most common violation to cause motorcycle accident injuries in Dixon over the past 11 years has been drivers operating their vehicles at speeds above the posted speed limit. Speed limit violations caused 34 percent of the accidents in question; this is more than double as many as the next most common violation factor, unsafe lane changing.

After lane changing, the most common accident violations were, in order of most common to least common:

Dangerous Intersections

For one reason or another, some areas tend to be the site of more collisions than others. In Dixon, these intersections have seen more motorcyclist injuries than others:

  • Pitt School Road and Stratford Avenue
  • East C Street and Highway 113
  • Porter Road and Pitt School Road
  • Highway 80 at the A Street off-ramp
  • Highway 80 at the Highway 113 junction
