Motorcyclist Struck by Pickup After Crossing Over Into Oncoming Traffic

A motorcycle accident fatality occurred in Dixon recently in Solano County when a rider failed to make a curve. The collision was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as occurring along West A Street. According to the report, the deceased rider, age 29, was on his Harley-Davidson and going about 55 mph when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the double yellow lines, and was struck by a Ford F-550 going eastbound.

Authorities Investigating to Determine Cause of Motorcycle Accident Fatality

The motorcycle struck the Ford’s side, ejecting its rider, who died from injuries suffered in the crash. Authorities closed down the roadway to conduct an investigation into the cause of the accident and have not ruled out alcohol use as a factor.

Motorcycle Accident Fatality

Family members of motorcyclists are entitled to be concerned about their safety on the road, as they face so many dangers. It is normal for people to want to know what happened to their loved one when they learn that they have died. It is the same for AutoAccident.com‘s investigators and legal team. Evidence and facts should not be lost or thrown away, leaving family members in a helpless position.

It is for this reason that our firm doesn’t wait for the official report of the accident. Our investigators go to the accident site to determine who is at fault. As soon as possible after the accident, we review all available information and obtain video recordings from surveillance cameras when they are available. Investigators from our team speak with witnesses and use accident reconstruction techniques to determine how the fatality occurred and identify who was at fault. Our team of legal professionals then uses these findings to build a strong case against the responsible party.

Dangers to Motorcyclists on the Road

Despite their best efforts, motorcycle riders often suffer serious injuries or even death when they crash. There are a number of common motorcycle accident causes, including:

  • Motorcycle riders are often involved in collisions when drivers make a turn in front of them.
  • In many motorcycle accidents, speeding motorists are responsible. Because speeders have longer stopping distances and may lose control of their vehicles, they can be dangerous for everyone on the road.
  • If a driver is distracted while texting, talking on the phone, adjusting a radio or doing anything else that diverts their attention from the road, they are at risk of an accident.
  • Motorcycle accidents can be caused by impaired drivers. During an emergency, a drunk driver may not be able to stop in time because they cannot maintain their lane, cannot tell where other vehicles are and have slowed reflexes.
  • Motorcycle accidents can be caused by poorly maintained roads. Motorcycle accidents due to poor government maintenance can be caused by potholes, disruptions in the pavement and inadequate lighting. It is possible to sue government entities for the damage they cause after these accidents. The timeline for filing is relatively short. The injured person has to file a claim within six months, and the government entity has 45 days to respond. If the claim is rejected, the injured person has six months to file a lawsuit. If they receive no response, they have up to two years to file.
  • Motorcycles can be involved in accidents because of defective parts. Engineers can examine the vehicle to look for defects if the vehicle is retained. A product liability claim can be filed against a manufacturer if a defect is found to have caused the crash.
