Intersection Accidents and Potential Injuries
Intersection crashes can cause a wide range of serious injuries and often raise complex questions about fault and compensation.
Potential injuries in intersection collisions:
- Head and brain injuries, such as concussions or traumatic brain injuries from striking the steering wheel, window, or airbag.
- Neck and back injuries, including whiplash, herniated discs, or spinal cord damage, may lead to chronic pain or even paralysis.
- Broken bones and fractures of the arms, legs, ribs, hips, or pelvis due to the force of a side-impact or head-on hit.
- Internal injuries and organ damage, as well as deep lacerations and soft tissue injuries, may not be immediately apparent but can be life-threatening without prompt treatment.
Common causes of intersection collisions:
- Driver errors such as running a red light or stop sign, failing to yield the right-of-way, or attempting unsafe left turns across oncoming traffic.
- Distracted or impaired driving, including texting behind the wheel, speeding to “beat” a yellow light, or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Environmental and design issues, including obstructed views, confusing or poorly timed signals, and inadequate signage that can cause misjudgment of gaps and speeds.
