Fatal Pedestrian Vs. Vehicle Crash in Oroville

One person sadly passed away after being struck by a vehicle during a pedestrian crash in Oroville on Monday, January 25, 2021. The Oroville Police Department (OPD) reported that the collision happened late at night between a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle. Butte County authorities are presently withholding the identity of the decedent, and the incident is under OPD investigation.

Collision Details

OPD reports that the crash took place at 10:21 p.m. on Oro Dam Boulevard near the intersection of 5th Avenue just outside of the local Foster’s Freeze. According to police, the pedestrian was crossing the road while a Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Oro Dam Boulevard. While the exact circumstances of the crash have not been reported, OPD indicated that the Honda struck the pedestrian inside of the roadway.

After the crash, police were contacted and immediately sent a team of emergency officials to the site. At the scene, officers found the pedestrian had sustained severe trauma and had the individual rushed to a local hospital for immediate medical care. Sadly, the individual passed away while in hospital care. While there were two occupants in the Honda at the time of the accident, neither one was reported to have suffered injuries.

Investigation of Crash in Oroville

At this time, OPD officers say that they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in this accident and have not reported any suspected causes. Pedestrian collisions can happen for more than one reason and frequently involve things outside of driver/pedestrian control, such as inadequate roadway lighting and pedestrian infrastructure, as well as malfunctioning brakes or other vehicle products.

What Can Be Recovered After Fatal Accidents?

Sadly, it is impossible to replace the presence of a loved one, and coping with grief after a deadly accident can take a long time. While the grieving process can be very difficult, many people are able to find comfort by relying on support from people that they love, including family, friends, and members of their communities.

However, it is possible to obtain compensation for the damages you’ve suffered. Families affected by deadly accidents can file wrongful death claims in order to seek payments for lost income and/or services, funeral and burial expenses, personal suffering, and other damages. These payments can allow families to be financially secure during a very emotionally difficult time.

If you’d like to know more about what compensation might be available to you and your family, the best thing you can do is to speak personally with an experienced wrongful death attorney in your area.
