Crescent City Area Motorcycle Accident Injures Two

On Monday, May 25, 2020, a Crescent City area motorcycle accident left two people with serious injuries. The collision occurred in the early evening on Highway 199 and involved a motorcycle and no other vehicles. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the cause of this accident is still under investigation.

Crash Information

The crash happened at about 5:35 p.m. Police reported that a 24-year-old man was driving a 2009 Suzuki DL-650 north on 199 when he entered a sharp left-hand curve in the road. As he navigated the curve, the motorcyclist reportedly lost control and crashed into a highway guardrail. The collision knocked both the driver and his passenger off the motorcycle.

Response

CHP ordered an accident response team to the scene of the collision immediately after receiving a call about the incident. When emergency personnel reached the site, they found both the driver and passenger had sustained major injuries. Both parties were loaded onto an ambulance and rushed to the Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.

Investigation

While a full investigation into possible causal factors of this crash is still ongoing, CHP has released a statement indicating that they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved. Motorcycle collisions are common and are often caused by factors that motorcyclists don’t have any control over. These factors can include defective motorcycle parts or dangerous issues with roads like faulty pavement or lack of signage.

Motorcycle Accidents in Humboldt County

Statistics from UC Berkeley show that 8,099 traumatic vehicle crashes happened in Humboldt County during the last decade of available data. Out of these crashes, 664 involved a motorcycle. These motorcycle accidents caused 732 injuries as well as 35 deaths, resulting in a higher fatality and injury rate than collisions involving normal passenger vehicles.

Motorcyclist Injuries

Motorcyclists are very vulnerable in the event of an accident because motorcycles don’t have the same safety features as cars. Without airbags or seatbelts, motorcyclists are liable to sustain serious injuries that can have a major impact on their lives.

Recovering from these injuries is often difficult and can take months or even years. In severe cases, injured motorcyclists are left with permanent health issues such as loss of mobility or chronic pain. Furthermore, recovering from a serious injury is often expensive and many people are unsure of how they will be able to afford the care that they need, especially if being injured has caused them to be unable to work.

Getting Help

Fortunately, people who have been hurt in motorcycle accidents can get help. By contacting an attorney who has experience working on serious injury cases, crash survivors can file personal injury claims in order to pursue compensation for the losses they have suffered.
