Crash Kills Sacramento Marine

A 25-year-old man lost his life when the vehicle he was riding in crashed into the rear of a big rig. This accident happened on Highway 50 near Howe Avenue at around 2:00 a.m. on February 12, 2016.

What Happened?

The large commercial truck was getting onto the highway from Howe Avenue. A Toyota Scion, for reasons unknown, proceeded into the on ramp lane at about 65 mph. Shortly thereafter it rear ended the back of the truck. A Toyota Corolla travelling about 65 mph hit the Scion when it drifted into its lane. According to officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the passenger in the Scion did not appear to be wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. The female driver of the Scion sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.  She has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Her passenger was a 25-year-old man who was a U.S. Marine.

Were There Other Injuries?

We have learned that the driver of the big rig was not hurt in the collision. The occupants and driver of the Toyota Corolla were not injured.
