Accident at Ethan Way Intersection Results in Three Injuries

Crash injuries were reported in an intersection accident in Sacramento on March 3 when three vehicles collided. The accident was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as occurring around 1:17 in the afternoon at the intersection of Ethan Way and Wyda Way between two Hondas and a Toyota Camry.

All of the vehicles were removed to the right-hand side to make it easier for traffic to pass. However, two of them sustained sufficient damage that they had to be removed by tow trucks.

Multiple Patients Transported to Hospital for Undetermined Crash Injuries

First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the scene to assess injuries. Three patients were exported from the scene to the hospital with complaints of pain. No further details were supplied. The collision is being investigated by the CHP to discover how it occurred and determine fault.

The Dangers of Intersections

For drivers, intersections are among the most dangerous locations. Since traffic is converging from multiple directions and is complicated by the presence of pedestrians, bicycle riders, and others, it can be difficult to stay safe. In addition, not all drivers exhibit the duty of care to others that they should, and this can lead to an accident. Accidents at intersections commonly include:

  • Rear-end collisions: A driver who stops suddenly can cause a rear-end crash. Although these types of accidents usually occur at the crosswalk because of a pedestrian or because the light suddenly changed, it can also happen in the middle of the intersection when turning.
  • Tailgating: Tailgating another vehicle is always a bad idea because the car in front may slow down or stop without warning. Generally, motorists who strike another car from the rear will be found at-fault for the accident and resultant crash injuries.
  • Speeding: Speeding is considered a form of reckless driving, along with running a red light and other traffic infractions. However, when a driver is speeding while approaching an intersection, they may be unable to stop in time to avoid a collision.
  • Making a risky turn: Drivers who are attempting a right turn can take a big risk if they don’t watch out for bicyclists in the bike lane or have an obstructed view of vehicles coming from the left. Those who are making a left turn while in the intersection have to be cautious of oncoming traffic or others who are turning who might crowd into their lane.

Personal Negligence in an Intersection Accident

Driving problems can be increased if the motorist is negligent in other ways. These can include:

  • Distracted driving is a major problem that contributes to accidents and resulting crash injuries. Distractions can include talking on a cell phone or with passengers, texting, or eating while driving.
  • Drunk driving is a serious problem on local roads. A drunk driver can’t concentrate, uses poor judgment, and reflexes and vision are affected.
  • Fatigued driving: Those who are too tired to be driving can be as dangerous as an intoxicated motorist. Fatigue affects a motorist in ways that are similar to that of a drunk driver.
