Vehicle Crash on Mitchell Road Seriously Injures Ceres Bicycle Rider

A Ceres bicycle rider suffered critical injuries in a crash with a vehicle on May 15. The accident happened along Mitchell Road, near Hatch Road around 3:00 p.m., according to the Ceres Police Department. Officers said the rider was on Mitchell at the intersection with Adrien Way and passed over the center median, where he was hit by a motorist.

Ceres Bicycle Rider Hospitalized in Critical Condition

The motorist was going north on Mitchell. The Ceres bicycle rider was only identified as a male, age 59. The vehicle driver stayed at the accident scene and cooperated with the accident investigation. The bicyclist is hospitalized and currently listed in critical condition. Witnesses to the accident are asked to call Officer Aaron Pinon at (209) 538-5678. He can also be emailed at  [email protected].

Placing a Claim for Injury Compensation

You should place a claim for injury compensation involving a Ceres bicycle rider, especially if serious injuries or the death of a family member are involved, and negligence by another was the cause. Most cases settle out of court with the insurance company. Your personal injury lawyer negotiates the claim for you, usually securing an amount two to three times higher than if you handled it yourself.

Handling an Injury Claim Yourself Can Be a Difficult Process

Insurance companies often low-ball the amount they offer injured individuals. They want to make money, so it benefits them if you accept a low offer, especially when medical bills start piling up and you are off work missing your paycheck. If you settle too soon for a low amount, you might find your bills continuing to rise, with no option to return to the insurance company for additional compensation.

Recoverable Damages in Personal Injury Claims

The areas listed below can be recovered in a personal injury claim. Your lawyer will ensure that everything is included in your claim, so you won’t face any future bills. Recoverable compensation includes:

  • You can claim all medical expenses related to the accident. This includes the ambulance fee, hospitalization, doctors’ bills, specialists, testing, prescriptions, rehabilitation, and trips to and from the physician’s office. If the injury continues into the future, that is factored in.
  • You can recover lost wages, including bonuses and other job-related monetary benefits. If you have to take a downgrade because you can no longer perform your job, that is factored in as well. Additionally, if you are permanently disabled and cannot work, you can recover compensation until the normal age of retirement.
  • You can recover damage to the marriage, including personal relationships between spouses, loss of affection, assistance, and society, and loss of consortium.
  • You can recover compensation for disfigurement and scarring, which can leave you with emotional and psychological damage. This includes the cost of plastic surgery to improve the disfigurement if it is possible.
