Corning Traffic Violations and Accidents

Car accidents are almost always an unexpected event and can happen just about anywhere. While some crashes can’t be avoided, the majority of collisions take place because of one or more drivers committed a traffic violation. Drivers who choose to ignore the rules of the road put others in danger and dramatically increase the risk of collisions that are liable to cause severe or even fatal injuries. However, pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicle drivers can decrease their chances of being involved in a crash by learning some information about how traffic violations tend to affect their area. One of the best ways to do this is to simply take a look at the available statistics. According to UC Berkeley, the following traffic violations caused the most accidents in Corning over the last ten years.

Right-of-Way

Right-of-Way violations were the number one cause of car accidents in corning from 2008-2018. During this period of time, there were 33 right-of-way accidents in Corning, which made up about 24 percent of crashes in the city overall. However, these collisions were usually not as severe as accidents caused by other types of violations and only accounted for about 14 percent of fatal or severe injuries.

Speeding

Speeding represents the second most common injury-causing traffic violation in Corning. Operating vehicles at high speeds was the primary causal factor in around 21 percent of traumatic crashes and caused a total of 29 collisions. Speeding is particularly dangerous because it reduces vehicle control. Driving too quickly can leave drivers unable to steer clear of roadway hazards or make it so that their vehicle can’t safely navigate turns. This can cause accidents that would have otherwise been easily avoided.

Improper Turning

Improper turning was the third most dangerous accident type. Drivers committing improper turns was the cause of 14 traumatic crashes in Corning during 2008-2018, accounting for ten percent of crashes. Turning improperly was also the violation which tended to cause the most severe injuries and accounted for 25 percent of fatal or serious accident injuries.

Other Violations

All other traffic violations made up less than ten percent of Corning crashes each. More common violations included DUI, wrong-way driving, and running traffic lights. Less common violations included pedestrian right-of-way, unsafe lane changes, improper passing, and tailgating.

Holding Drivers Responsible

People who were injured in crashes caused by reckless drivers don’t deserve to suffer for another person’s negligence. Often, injured parties can hold reckless drivers accountable by filing a personal injury claim. These claims seek to help injured parties recover for their financial and emotional damages and can include payments for a wide variety of losses. However, not all injury cases merit pursuing a claim. To learn more about this, see the following video. If you want advice about your situation, you should call a personal injury lawyer in Corning to speak with them about your case.
