Minor-Injury Collision on I-5 Near US-50 Connector in Sacramento
A two-vehicle northbound collision on I-5 near US-50 connector in Sacramento and the Broadway off-ramp caused delays and left several people with minor injuries late Wednesday morning, September 3, 2025, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash, which occurred shortly before noon, involved a gray-colored Honda Accord and a white-colored SUV. Both vehicles struck the right-side wall before coming to a stop along the shoulder. CHP reported that the damage was significant enough to require both vehicles to be removed by flatbed tow trucks.
Emergency Response and Injuries
Sacramento Fire Department paramedics responded to treat the injured at the scene. Officials confirmed that while multiple individuals sustained minor injuries, no fatalities occurred. All victims are expected to recover.
The crash was originally logged as a possible major injury collision but was later reclassified as a minor injury crash (CHP code 1181). Fire crews temporarily blocked the slow lane while medics worked, later relocating all involved vehicles to the Broadway exit to help restore traffic flow. The roadway was cleared around 12:20 p.m.
Investigation Into the Cause
Authorities have not yet released the cause of the collision. CHP investigators are working to determine whether speed, distraction, or unsafe lane changes played a role.
Safety Reminder for Sacramento Commuters
The interchange between I-5 and US-50 is one of the busiest in Sacramento, especially during late-morning and midday traffic. Drivers can help prevent collisions by:
- • Maintaining safe following distances.
- • Avoiding abrupt lane changes near connector ramps.
- • Remaining alert in congested areas where merging traffic is common.
Even minor crashes at freeway connectors can cause major backups and create dangerous conditions for emergency responders.
