Accident in Central Eureka Causes Fatal Injuries

One person passed away after being involved in a car collision in central Eureka on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. The Eureka Police Department (EPD) reported that the collision occurred at night and involved multiple vehicles. Humboldt County officials are waiting to release the name of the decedent until their family receives a proper notification. Additionally, no other individuals sustained trauma during the incident.

Crash Information

The collision occurred at around 10:07 p.m. at the intersection of W. Wabash Avenue and Broadway Street. According to EPD, preliminary investigations suggest that the sedan had been heading northbound on Broadway and was stopped at the intersection waiting for a red traffic light to change prior to the accident. At the same time, a pickup truck was stopped on the opposite side of Broadway.

When the light changed to allow a turn, the pickup truck began to maneuver into eastbound lanes of Wabash. For unknown reasons, the sedan moved forward at the same time and crashed head-on into the pickup inside of the intersection.

Response

When officers reached the site of this accident, they found both vehicles inside of the intersection. The sedan driver was discovered on the ground and was receiving CPR from a Good Samaritan. Police took over CPR and continued to conduct life-saving efforts. When paramedics arrived, they rushed the driver, identified as a 62-year-old woman, to the St. Joseph hospital. Tragically, the woman was pronounced deceased while in hospital custody.

The driver of the pickup was reportedly uninjured during the accident. No other vehicle occupants were reported.

Investigation

EPD conducted investigations at the scene of the accident and reported that they interviewed multiple witnesses. However, a full investigation into what factors were involved in the accident is ongoing, and police have yet to say what factors were involved. Furthermore, officers have asked for accident witnesses or individuals with information relevant to the incident to contact EPD. Callers should get in touch with Detective Corrie Watson at (707) 441-4032.

The investigation process can be difficult, and police frequently have a hard time uncovering all of the relevant evidence when they are unable to interview all of the involved drivers. Without information from the decedent’s perspective, important factors may never be found out, leaving families unable to hold liable parties responsible for damages.

Because of this, it’s important to find a Eureka wrongful death lawyer who has experience privately investigating deadly accidents. A skilled lawyer will prioritize your family while conducting a very thorough investigation of the available evidence.
