Clearlake DUI Crash Injures Two

A car accident that happened near Clearlake on Monday, April 29, 2019, left two people with injuries. The crash happened in the early morning, and California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers say that they suspect it was caused by driving under the influence of alcohol. Reports from medical responders indicated that both of the involved drivers suffered serious injuries.

Crash Details

CHP reported that the collision happened at around 12:40 a.m. close to Upper Lake. A 28-year-old woman from Ukiah was heading west on Highway 20 in a black 2011 Nissan Altima approaching Scotts Valley Road. At the same time, a 30-year-old Lakeport man had been heading east on Highway 20 in a white 2006 Dodge Dakota in the same area. Officers stated that the Nissan drifted over the median of the highway and entered the Dodge’s draft. The two vehicles collided with each other head-on, causing major damages.

Response

When emergency personnel arrived at the accident scene, they found that the Ukiah woman was unresponsive and had suffered major trauma. The woman was extricated from her vehicle and put on an ambulance to be taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital. Later on, she was transported by helicopter to the Vacaville Kaiser Medical Center for further care. At the Kaiser hospital, she was determined to have been under the influence of alcohol and Solano CHP officers placed her under arrest at 4:45 a.m. on a felony DUI charge.

The Lakeport man was able to exit his own vehicle but told officers that his whole body was experiencing pain. He was also transported to the Sutter Lakeside Hospital where medical officials determined that he had suffered moderate trauma. Additionally, officers said that both drivers had been wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

DUI and Liability

Driving under the influence endangers the lives of everybody on the roadway. For this reason, those who have been determined to be driving drunk during car accidents are considered negligent. Negligent drivers can often be held responsible for the damages their actions have caused through personal injury claims, which help injured parties recover financially after suffering collision injuries.

The damages that injured parties are able to claim after a crash vary depending on the details of each case. However, people are frequently able to claim payments for a wide variety of losses that include medical expenses such as surgeries, medications, and ambulance fees as well as wages lost during recovery, loss of quality of life, and more.
