Citrus Heights Vehicle Rollover Damages Water Main

Citrus Heights Vehicle Rollover Damages Water Main

A vehicle rollover accident caused flooding in Citrus Heights when the car hit a Sacramento main water line. The Sacramento Fire Department said that the rollover accident happened at approximately 4:18 p.m. at Antelope Road and Orange Avenue. In addition to the water main, a fire hydrant was also damaged. Four nearby homes were flooded by the torrent of water pouring out onto the area. Reports from the scene said that garages and yards sustained the most flooding. Authorities said that the flooding caused by the rollover accident was controlled by 8:30 p.m. The driver of the overturned vehicle was transported to the hospital for treatment.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

When disaster strikes your home due to the actions of a negligent driver, you may lose your possessions or your property may be damaged. This is true whether the errant driver struck your parked vehicle or your home. There are several ways to recoup your losses, and our legal team can help you do just that. It starts with our experienced investigators visiting the accident site. They search the area for clues as to why the damage occurred. For instance, a driver may be speeding and crash into your property. A vehicle may also experience brake failure due to a manufacturing defect, leading to the damage. In both cases, your loss can be compensated for by the at-fault party.

Determining Where to File Your Claim

In some cases, it is possible to use your homeowner’s policy to pay for damages. The insurer can then be repaid by the negligent driver’s car insurance. However, flooding is not always covered in every homeowner or renter policy. In that case, the at-fault driver’s insurance will need to pay for the damage. Since each insurance policy is different, your injury lawyer will be able to give you a heads up on how to file a claim.

Things You Can Do When the Accident Happens

If you are at home and aware that your home or parked car has been damaged, there are things you can do to strengthen your case.

  • Note the registration of the vehicle that caused the accident and the license plate number.
  • Write down the color and make of the car.
  • Note the driver’s name, address, and insurer.
  • Call the police and report the accident.
  • Let your homeowner’s insurance know about the damage.
  • Take photos of the damage in detail.
  • Get estimates of what the damage will take to repair.

What Happens When the Driver’s Auto Insurance Is Not Enough

Generally, the person who causes the property damage is responsible for it. For example, if a car hits your parked vehicle or crashes into your home, the driver must compensate you for your loss provided he or she is at fault. The minimum insurance the State of California requires for property damage is $5,000. The big question here is how much damage did the property owner suffer? Let’s say it will require $15,000 to repair the damages. The driver carries $5,000 in property damage on their auto insurance. Where does the remainder come from?

That’s Where Your Homeowner’s Policy May Come In

Depending on your policy, you may be covered. Some homeowners’ policies cover any damage not covered by the at-fault driver’s auto insurance. They cover not only the dwelling but also attached structures such as a garage. One problem that can be costly is the relatively high deductible you may have to pay on a homeowner’s policy.

Filing a Lawsuit

Depending on the extent of the damage, it may be beneficial to file a lawsuit against the at-fault driver if their insurance does not reimburse you for the damage to your property. Your personal injury lawyer can help by structuring a strong case for compensation.
