Citrus Heights Fire Causes Street Closure

Citrus Heights House Fire Causes Street Closure

The American Red Cross reports that when a house fire starts in your home you may have only two minutes to get out.

A Citrus Heights house fire causes street closure, shutting down traffic, near Sunrise Boulevard on Wednesday, December 2, 2015.

The call for help arrived at about 5 a.m.  A fully-engulfed structure fire was underway when fire crews arrived.

We are learning that a second floor in the fire-engulfed house collapsed making rescue difficult.

One Fatality

Metro Fire is confirming one fatality. Early reports suggest that the fire started near a furnace.

Sunrise Boulevard Closure

Southbound Sunrise Boulevard at Oak Street was closed down due to the residential fire. Citrus Heights Police Department had to direct southbound commuters into a U-turn at Oak.

The northbound lanes were unaffected. Around 8 a.m. one lane of southbound Sunrise opened up.  The other lanes remained closed for public safety.
