Toddler Almost Drowned at Modesto Reservoir
A toddler nearly drowned a Modesto Reservoir on Sunday afternoon. She was not wearing a life jacket.
Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department dispatched rescue personnel to the reservoir east of Waterford to assist an unconscious 2-year-old girl.
Was the Child Being Supervised?
No. The child was playing in the water as her 6-year-old brother stood on the shore. Both children were reportedly unsupervised at the time of the near-drowning. A bystander who was supervising her own children witnessed the girl go down under the water.
Child Pulled From Water
The woman rescued the little girl by pulling her out of the water. She realized the child was unconscious, authorities said. She and another person standing nearby performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Soon, the little girl’s parents were made aware of what had taken place.
Rescue Personnel Called to Scene
When rescue crews arrived at the scene, the toddler had been revived by the two bystanders.
The little girl was transported to a Modesto hospital for additional treatment and care.
Concerned Parent and Bystander Saves the Life of a Child
Thankfully, a concerned parent was scanning the waters while watching her own kids play in the reservoir.
This situation could have ended in a full-blown drowning and tragic loss of life.
Our hats are off to the woman and the bystander who took matters into their own hands and saved the life of the two-year-old little girl.
