Chico Pedestrian Crash Kills One

On Saturday, October 26, 2019, a Chico pedestrian crash left one person with injuries that sadly cost them their life. Officials with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office are reportedly withholding the identity of the decedent until his family members have been properly notified about the accident. The accident reportedly involved only one vehicle in addition to the fatally injured pedestrian. The Chico Police Department (CPD) has indicated that they are actively investigating possible causes of this tragic collision.

Crash Information

According to CPD, the accident happened at about 7:14 a.m. on the corner of East 9th Street and Main Street in the downtown area of Chico. Details about the events leading up to the accident have not been made available by responders. However, reports indicated that Chico Fire, CPD’s Major Incident Team, and Butte County EMS all participating in responding to the collision. Police also reportedly closed off East 9th Street between Broadway and Main for four hours while emergency officials attended to the accident scene.

Emergency medical responders at the crash location say that they found the pedestrian in critical condition. The injured man was placed on an ambulance and rushed to the Enloe Medical Center. However, doctors were not able to stabilize him, and the man tragically passed away in hospital custody. According to reports, no other individuals were physically injured during the crash.

CPD has conducted preliminary investigations of the incident and has reported that they do not believe driver intoxication was involved in this accident. As their investigation continues, police have asked that anyone who may have seen the crash take place contact CPD in order to tell officers what they know. Accident witnesses or individuals with information about the collision should use the non-emergency number (530) 897-4910.
