Chico Pedestrian Accident

Pedestrian Killed in Early Morning Accident

The Chico Police Department was dispatched to a call of a vehicle accident involving an injured pedestrian around the 1200 alley block between Citrus and Hobart avenues in the early hours of Sunday morning.

What Happened?

When Chico police arrived at the scene, officers discovered that the pedestrian did not survive the injuries they sustained. The pedestrian’s identity is not being released at this time, pending notification to next-of-kin. Law enforcement officers have not released any information about the driver or vehicle involved.

Chico Police Investigating

The Chico Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is conducting the investigation. If you witnessed the accident occur or have any information, the Chico Police Department asks you to contact them at (530) 897-4900.

Who is at Fault?

It is still too early to know for sure. It typically takes the investigating agency a week or two to prepare a traffic collision report. The report will specify its findings. Sometimes these reports are in error or inconclusive. This can leave the friends and family of those who have died tragically with many unanswered questions. If you have lost someone or have been seriously injured in a pedestrian accident, please contact an experienced attorney right away. An attorney will investigate the events leading up to the crash, protect the rights of those who were seriously injured, or have passed away and assisted you in recovering compensation for your damages from the at-fault party.

What is Wrongful Death?

The staff at the Edward A Smith Law Offices would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim in this accident.

Pedestrian Accidents

Pedestrian accidents are among the most serious traffic incidents that can occur. Pedestrians lack protection around their bodies. This leaves them completely vulnerable to serious or fatal injuries when struck by a moving vehicle.

Common factors for pedestrian accidents:

  • Drunk driving
  • Drivers making right or left turns
  • Distracted driving
  • Drivers backing up or making a u-turn
  • Speeding
  • Failing to follow traffic signals or signs

Courts in California have long recognized that the dangers posed by a 4000 or more pound vehicle are far greater than the dangers posed by a pedestrian. Therefore, the courts require a greater duty of care by the driver of a vehicle rather than the pedestrian. (Arentz v Blackshere (1967) 248 Cal. App. 2nd 638.)
