Fair Oaks Boulevard Intersection Crash Causes an Injury

A Carmichael intersection crash caused an injury to at least one person on March 11. The collision happened at Fair Oaks Boulevard and Arden Way shortly after 11:00 a.m. and involved a GMC 2500 pickup and a Mercedes Wagon.

According to the report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), fuel from one of the vehicles was leaking in the roadway, and the northbound lanes were blocked by the crash. Tow trucks had to be called to the scene because neither vehicle was drivable. A minor injury was reported. An investigation into the cause of the collision is underway by the CHP.

Dangers of an Intersection Crash

In most collisions, negligence is the underlying cause of a crash, and more than half occur at intersections. The convergent motor vehicles, as well as motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists at these crossroads, creates a variety of possibilities for accidents:

  • An intersection accident is often caused by drivers who run a red light.
  • When a driver fails to stop when the light changes due to speeding, an intersection accident occurs. An accident with another motorist who is already stopped usually results in a rear-end collision.
  • A left turn made incorrectly can lead to an accident at an intersection. As the arrow changes to red, the driver turns just as oncoming traffic is approaching the intersection. Fast-moving traffic can reach that driver before he/she clears the intersection.
  • Bicyclists, pedestrians, and other cars are commonly involved in accidents caused by someone turning right. Drivers are usually looking left toward oncoming traffic, which may be obstructed by other vehicles, so they don’t notice pedestrians or bicyclists crossing the street.
  • Nighttime is the most dangerous time for fatigued drivers. Too often, an exhausted driver doesn’t realize that he or she is too tired. Hovering in and out of their lane or dozing off behind the wheel is a risk.
  • Distracted drivers are not paying attention to the road when they are texting or engaging in other activities.
  • In every type of traffic collision, including an intersection accident, drunk driving is a contributing factor.
  • An intersection accident can occur from auto defects, including a locked steering wheel, sticking accelerator, or brake failure. An auto product liability claim can be filed against the manufacturer. One reason it is important to keep a vehicle after an injury collision is to check for defects.

Intersection Crash Investigation

It is necessary to gather evidence before someone can sue for compensation if they have been injured by a negligent driver or for another reason. In order to gather that evidence, our investigators look for information in some of the following areas:

  • It is important to check the police report carefully to ensure there are no errors that might affect the client’s compensation claim.
  • Investigators interview any witnesses who may have seen the collision. It is possible that some of them taped the accident as it happened on their cell phones.
  • In the area, traffic cameras are checked for evidence of the intersection accident. A subpoena can be served on the record if it shows that the accident was captured.
  • A reconstruction of the accident is done, which shows where the vehicles were and when the accident occurred.
