El Camino Avenue Intersection Accident Results in Minor Injury

A two-vehicle intersection accident that may have involved a drunk driver occurred in Carmichael on August 8. A minor injury was reported in the collision, which happened around 10:22 a.m. at the intersection of El Camino Avenue and Gunn Road, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), and involved a Ford Windstar and Toyota Rav4. The accident blocked the intersection as Sacramento Metropolitan emergency responders arrived to assess injuries.

Drunk Driver May Have Been Involved in the Intersection Accident

At least one of the people involved in the accident was transported to a hospital, and a phlebotomist was called to conduct a test for drunk driving. The fault in the accident is being determined by CHP investigators.

Driver Error and Recovering Damages

Millions of people every year are injured in traffic accidents that aren’t their fault. Most of these accidents are caused by driver error. To ensure that an injured person obtains fair compensation for their injuries after an accident, discussing their case with an injury attorney can help. The attorney can answer their questions, tell them whether they can place a claim and also what options are available to recover damages.

Types of Accidents Involving Driver Error

There are a number of different types of negligence that can lead to a collision. More than half of all traffic collisions occur as intersection accidents. It’s easy to see why when there are motor vehicles, bicyclists, motorcycle riders, pedestrians, and others all converging in a central location and coming from different directions. When one driver is negligent, it can result in serious injuries and/or fatalities. Some of the most common causes of an intersection crash are:

  • Speeding: Speeding, which is more than 10 mph above the limit in California, can cause the driver to lose control. It also makes it difficult or impossible for the driver to stop in order to avoid an intersection accident in some cases.
  • Distracted driving: A distracted driver may be talking on a cell phone, texting, adjusting the radio, or other actions that take their eyes off the road and mind off the task at hand.
  • Failure to yield: Many times, the reason for an intersection accident with a pedestrian is caused by the driver failing to yield.
  • Running a stop sign or red light: Probably the most common cause of an intersection accident, the driver who does this is ignoring the duty of care expected of those who use the roadway.
  • Not using turn signals: Letting motorists and others know that you are going to turn can help prevent an accident. Not using turn signals is a common cause of collisions.
  • Drunk driving: Driving while intoxicated either by alcohol or drugs makes the road dangerous for others as well as the driver. Intoxication affects the driver’s vision and prevents them from judging their distance from other vehicles. Drunk drivers also show reduced reflexes and reasoning and other problems that can cause an intersection accident.
  • Fatigue: A driver who is too tired to be behind the wheel exhibits similar problems to those of someone who is intoxicated. In addition, the driver may fall asleep or drift into another lane.
