Cypress Lane Hit-and-Run Causes Injury in Three-Vehicle Accident

An injury accident involving a hit-and-run driver happened in Carmichael on March 9. The collision involved three vehicles, according to the report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). It occurred around 2:40 p.m. along the northbound lanes of Cypress Avenue just west of Garfield Avenue. The force of the collision ended up with at least one of the vehicles facing the wrong way.

Investigation Being Conducted Into Injury Accident

At least one of the vehicles had to be towed due to major front-end damage. According to the CHP, neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the Carmichael crash. Details were not provided on the individual who was injured or whether they were taken to a hospital for additional treatment.

Locating a Hit-and-Run Driver

Those who flee an injury accident can face felony charges and stiff fines as well as jail time. However, some people do it anyway. Maybe they have no driver’s license, or it was revoked or expired. Maybe they’ve been drinking or doing drugs and don’t want to risk being arrested. Then again, maybe they just panic and run. Whatever the reason, a fleeing driver is still responsible and can be found in many cases.

My law office has successfully located hit-and-run drivers many times over the years. It takes knowledge, determination, and good investigators. We have all three. Some of the areas where our investigators search for evidence to locate the driver include:

  • The investigators search for nearby road, traffic, and other cameras that may have captured the accident on tape. This helps identify the vehicle and often captures the license plate number.
  • The investigators look over the police report for any helpful information and ensure that it is correct.
  • Witnesses to the injury accident are interviewed. In some cases, a witness may be able to describe the vehicle and driver as well as recall at least a few of the numbers on the license plate.
  • The performance of accident reconstruction is valuable evidence used both by insurance companies and in court. In addition to reconstructing the accident as it happened, the investigators take photos of the scene, including dropped metal pieces from the vehicles and paint flakes or smears. This can help identify the make and model of the vehicle that left the scene of the injury accident.
  • Signs of government negligence are sought by the investigators. A traffic light that malfunctioned, overgrown shrubbery, potholes, and a host of other problems can lead to a traffic accident injury. In these cases, the entity in charge of that maintenance may be held financially responsible. Because the timeline for filing against a government entity is much shorter, contacting a personal injury attorney quickly is important. If a claim is filed too late, the case will not be heard in court.

Insurance Coverage Can Pay for an Injury Accident

Uninsured/underinsured insurance can pay for the losses in an injury accident if the injured party carries this add-on policy. California drivers are offered this add-on when they take auto insurance. It not only covers the driver and passengers in the vehicle but provides coverage for pedestrians, bicycle riders, and others.

If the injured party did not elect to take this insurance, but another family member in the household has it, that can be used instead. It does not raise the policy rates.
