Car Kills Redding Bicyclist

Bicyclist Killed in Tragic Accident

On the morning of Thursday, August 11, 2016, a tragic accident took place where a man was struck by a vehicle on Lake Boulevard in Redding.

What Happened?

The accident took place at approximately 8:27 am at the intersection of North Boulder Drive and Lake Boulevard. Authorities report that a Dodge truck, driven by 36-year-old Melissa Lynn Johnson of Redding, was driving in the west direction of Lake Boulevard. The man was bicycling down the crosswalk in the south direction at the eastern side of the intersection. Witnesses reported that Johnson did not stop at the red light signal at the intersection where her truck came into contact with the bicyclist.

Bicycle Accident Aftermath

The Shasta County Coroner’s Office identified the bicyclist who passed away as 58-year-old Kim Bradley Pyles. Pyles was taken to the Mercy Medical Center for treatment where he later passed away. Johnson was utilizing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and was uninjured.

Redding Police Department Public Announcement

According to authorities, neither alcohol nor drugs are determined to be factors of the accident at this time. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Redding Police Department at (530) 225-4200.
