California to Loosen Restrictions for Activities

As summer ends and fall begins, the state of California is starting to loosen restrictions on indoor activities. Many counties in the Golden State are preparing to reopen their business sectors.

Understanding County Status

Each county is assigned to a tier that is based on its COVID test positivity and case rate.  To move up a tier, a county must stay in a tier for a minimum of three weeks and meet the next tier’s criteria for two consecutive weeks. However, if a county does not meet the criteria or its metrics worsen, a more restrictive tier will be assigned. Public health officials continue to monitor the data and provide updates.

Butte County Status

So far, there have been a total of 2,809 confirmed cases of COVID in Butte County. Of those cases, 45 COVID-related deaths have been confirmed.

Butte County is currently in Tier 2. To see which businesses in Butte County can open indoor activities with modifications, see the state’s blueprint for businesses and activities.

What Remains Closed in Butte County?

At this time, the following businesses or activities will remain closed in Butte County until further notice:

  • Adult Recreational sports
  • Athletic Fields
  • Bars, Pubs, Brewpubs, Breweries –  Unless sit-down, outdoor dine-in meals are offered.
  • Concert venues
  • Festivals
  • Indoor playgrounds such as ball pits, bounce centers, and laser tag
  • Live theater
  • Nightclubs
  • Outdoor Playgrounds
  • Saunas and steam rooms
  • Theme parks

When Butte County Reopens

As California announces reopening guidance for business sectors to reopen and all measures have been met, counties remind businesses to comply with the State Reopening Guidance and other additional regulations. Businesses must:

  • Post a self-certification window placard in a location that is visible to their customers.
  • Require all employees to wear a face mask when interacting with customers, working in a space near customers, working in a location where food is packaged or prepared, and in an enclosed space where others are present and are not able to practice social distancing.
  • Keep a log that includes the customer’s name, contact information, and time of visit. This may be provided to Butte County Public Health officials to assist in contact tracing.

Mask Safety Measures

Masks are required in public. Wearing a face covering can help reduce the spread of coronavirus. Below are some safety measures to follow:

  • Wash the face-covering before wearing it again.
  • Wash your hands before putting on your mask.
  • Don’t touch your face or the mask during usage.
  • Masks are not a substitute for staying home or social distancing.
  • The N95 respirator masks should be saved for first responders and healthcare workers.

A face-covering can be store-bought or hand-made. It can be of various materials, including cotton, linen, or silk. It should cover the nose and mouth and be secured comfortably to the head with straps.
