Teen Injured in Accident Involving CHP Officer

On Wednesday, September 28, 2016, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer was en route to an accident on County Road 97 (near Highway 16) around 6:00 p.m. The officer hit a teenager driving a red pickup truck near Pioneer Avenue and Gibson Road in Woodland.

What Caused the Accident?

It is too early to tell. At this time, no statements have been made by the CHP with details surrounding the accident.

Were There Injuries?

The teenager who was driving the red pickup truck suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for further evaluation. The front of the pickup truck had major front-end damage and came to a rest at the center divide of the intersection. The CHP officer was also taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

What You Need to Know About Filing a Claim Against a Public Entity

There is a 6-month/180 day time frame, from the date of your accident in which you must file your claim. This is drastically shorter than the typical 2-year time frame for other personal injury claims.

Hiring a Governmental Entity Lawyer

Overcoming governmental immunity can be challenging and difficult. Filing a claim on time is often the first of many hurdles in these types of cases.

The state and federal tort claims acts have multiple notices and procedural provisions that have the potential to trap an inexperienced attorney or layperson.

It is important to contact an experienced attorney if you plan on bringing a claim against a government entity.
