Bus Accident With Motor Vehicle in Orangevale

Accident on Greenback Lane Results in One Injury in Crash With Bus

A bus accident that involved a motor vehicle caused injuries to one person in Orangevale on November 4. The collision occurred around 12:36 in the afternoon on Greenback Lane westbound just east of Main Avenue. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that an individual in a Honda Odyssey, who was involved in the accident, called it in to report it to police. A Sacramento RT bus was also involved.

Bus Accident Sends One Person to Hospital

One injured party in the Honda was transported by emergency responders to Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of their injuries. A tow truck arrived to remove the vehicle, although no information was supplied by authorities on damage to the bus or possible serious injuries. The Orangevale bus accident is being investigated by the CHP to determine how it happened.

Government Negligence

Sacramento RT buses offer public transportation throughout the county area. Those who are injured by a negligent bus driver or other problem caused by the company may place a claim for compensation. This is used to cover their medical costs, wages that were lost and to reimburse them for their pain and suffering. An injury lawyer experienced in handling bus accidents can help. Because the average RT bus weighs more than 20,000 pounds, an accident caused by one can result in significant injuries. Our experienced attorneys know how to investigate and provide proof of an injury to ensure that your government claim can go forward to a positive resolution.

Government Claims

Government claims are not like those for other personal injuries. Under the California Tort Claims Act, individuals who file a government claim, including those that concern a bus accident, must do so within six months of the injury. The agency has a period of 45 days in which to respond. If the agency agrees with the claim, they will enter negotiations to settle.

If the Claim is Rejected or Ignored

If the agency rejects the bus accident claim, the injured person has six months to file a lawsuit. If the agency does not respond, the injured person (the claimant) has up to two years to file a lawsuit. Because it is important that the paperwork be filled out correctly and completely and within the time limit allowed, enlisting the aid of a lawyer experienced in handling these types of claims and breaking through government immunity is important. Otherwise, the claim will not be heard in court.

Causes of Bus Accidents

Just as in other motor vehicle crashes, there can be a number of reasons for a bus accident that involves negligence. Some of those reasons include:

  • Inadequate training for the driver. Buses are enormous and take up more space than a normal vehicle. This means the driver must be well-trained to handle such a large vehicle. A lack of training can easily cause a bus accident.
  • Speeding can be a factor in an accident involving a bus. This is because the driver has a certain amount of time to make it from one stop to another without getting behind in the schedule.
  • Mechanical issues can cause an accident. Brakes or tires that are improperly maintained may lead to a crash.
  • Fatigue can cause a collision. Drivers who spend too many hours on the road without a break can become stressed and fatigued, which can cause a crash.
