Fatal Head-On Collision near Brentwood

A woman was killed during the early morning hours of December 21, 2019, after a fatal head-on accident near Brentwood, CA. The woman had been driving her 2019 Nissan sedan northbound on Vasco Road, just south of Camino Diablo, when she was involved in a head-on collision with a southbound 2007 Acura SUV around 3:00 a.m. The driver of the SUV, identified as a 34-year-old East Palo Alto woman, was injured and had to be transferred to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for evaluation and treatment. Sadly, the driver of the Nissan passed away at the scene. Officials have identified the decedent as 44-year-old Tina Ha of Discovery Bay.

Investigation of the Brentwood Head-On Accident

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Contra Costa County Division dispatched officers to the scene of the collision. Upon investigation, officials found that the 2007 Acura SUV was headed southbound on Vasco Road and entered the oncoming traffic lane for unknown reasons, resulting in the head-on collision with the northbound Nissan sedan. There were no passengers in either vehicle involved in the car accident. The CHP investigation is still active, and the cause of the crash has yet to be determined.

Late Night Collisions

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about 49 percent of all accident-related deaths occur at night. When the evening only makes up about one-quarter of the total hours in a day, this implies that the car accident fatality rate is roughly three times higher compared to driving in the daylight. Many risk factors play in the high fatality rate of nighttime car accidents. Some of the risky driving behaviors that are major contributors include not wearing a seat belt, drunk driving (which is more common in the evening), drowsy driving, and distracted driving.

Filing a Claim for Wrongful Death

When a family member is killed in an accident that could have been avoided, it is common to feel anger towards the negligent party involved. You may experience feelings of unfairness regarding your loved one’s death, and believe that the other party should face justice and be punished for their negligent behavior. Authorities are ultimately the one who decides if a crime has been committed. However, irresponsible driving behaviors still have consequences. Wrongful death claims can be filed against the negligent party for potential financial losses that the deceased one’s family may suffer as a result. A spouse, parent, or child can file a wrongful death claim in a civil court. While no amount of money will be able to make up for the tragic loss of a loved one, financial compensation can help relieve some of the stress from funeral and burial expenses. Your family should be receiving as much support as possible during this difficult period, so consider contacting a wrongful death attorney about making a claim.
