Brentwood Car Accident Injures Two

Two people remain hospitalized after a serious car accident in Brentwood on 16 August.

About the Accident

At almost 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, a car crashed off of Sand Creek Road and into Roselinda Court in Brentwood. These two roads are not connected.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle went off of Sand Creek Road, through vegetation along the road, and into a residential neighborhood.

Thankfully, no pedestrians, biyclists or other bystanders were injured in the accident.

Driver Injuries in the Accident

Reports from the scene of the accident indicate that a 26-year-old male suffered a femur fracture. A passenger in the vehicle also sustained injuries, but no details about his injuries are available.

About the Medical Response

The Brentwood Police Department and the East Contra Costa Fire Department both responded to this accident. Upon arrival, fire crews radioed for a medical helicopter to transport the victim with a fractured femur to a hospital.

After assessing the second victim, fire crews then radioed for an ambulance to transport the second victim to a hospital.

Medical Helicopter Flights

Medical helicopters are often used when an ambulance will take too long to transport a victim to advanced medical care at a hospital. It is almost always a decision made when a life is in imminent danger of being lost.

However, victims that survive injuries necessitating helicopter transport are often faced with massive bills for the flight. The cost of a medical helicopter flight can range from $2,000 to $50,000. In many cases, insurance will often cover only part of these costs, leaving car accident victims with large amounts of medical bills.

Cause of Single Vehicle Accidents

The Brentwood Police Department is investigating this accident, so the cause is still unknown. The causes of single-vehicle accidents in general, though, are limited. Common causes of single vehicle accidents include:

  • Hazards in the road,
  • Other drivers that force a vehicle to take corrective action,
  • Distracted driving,
  • Defective car parts, and
  • Poor weather.

Some combination of hazards in the road, other vehicles, and distracted driving appear to be the most likely cause of the accident.

Liability in Single-Car Accidents

Liability in single vehicle accidents typically rests with the driver of the vehicle. However, if another vehicle or a hazard in the roadway caused the accident, a third party may be liable. An experienced Brentwood personal injury lawyer can determine if this is the case.
