Boy Dies from Hit-and-Run Injuries

I’m Ed Smith, a Rancho Cordova personal injury lawyer. On January 5, 2018, a memorial marked by four solitary candles was built to memorialize the life of an Angelo Cioca, an 11-year-old boy who was injured in a hit-and-run auto accident on Tuesday, December 23, 2017.

The boy received severe injuries and spent 13 days in the hospital before he succumbed to his injuries and tragically lost his life. All of us at AutoAccident.com would sincerely like to offer Angelo’s family our condolences.

The Accident

Angelo had reportedly been riding around on an electric scooter at about 1:20 p.m. in the area of Croetto Way at the intersection at Mills Park Drive in Rancho Cordova when he was hit by a vehicle being driven by a 19-year-old. The driver exited his vehicle after the crash and left the scene of the accident on foot. The driver was placed under arrest later in the evening and booked into the Sacramento County Jail with charges related to failing to stop at the accident scene.

Response

Angelo was found by a neighborhood good samaritan who gave him CPR and first aid while awaiting paramedics. When paramedics arrived, they put Angelo on an ambulance and sent him to the hospital for severe injuries that required surgery.

The specific injuries Angelo received were not reported.

Driver Release and Arrest

The driver of the vehicle was released from the Sacramento County Jail a short time after he was arrested and was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, January 11, 2018. However, the driver has since been placed under arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Investigation Findings

Reports indicate that investigators believe Angelo had darted out suddenly in front of the vehicle. Many neighborhood residents believe that the traffic situation of the area is unsafe and that a tragedy like this was inevitable.

One neighborhood resident, Ricardo Andrade, told reporters that local kids are “just playing out here” and are generally not aware of what is going on around them.

Wrongful Death

When people lose somebody that they love, they often find it difficult to focus on daily tasks. As such, calling a lawyer can seem like a far-away task. However, having a lawyer on your side as soon as possible is often a vital part of making sure that you receive fair repayment in a wrongful death case.

A lawyer with experience will be able to prevent responsible parties from obscuring any liability they may have had in the accident and knowing that your case is in professional hands can help you to pay attention to the important task of mourning.
