BottleRock 2020

Though it had to be rescheduled from its prior summer dates, the eighth annual Bottlerock Napa Valley Music Festival is currently still a go for the weekend of October 2 – 4, 2020.  With an amazing line-up of artists and a wide array of dining options, the event has become an annual Northern California showcase that is not to be missed.

The History of the Festival

The first BottleRock Napa Valley festival took place in 2013 and spanned a full five days from May 8 through 12. Sixty bands were featured. It was the first large music festival to be held in Napa Valley.  The 2013 event hosted 40 of the area’s wineries and welcomed more than 120,000 attendees.  After its inaugural season, there were allegations of millions in unpaid services and wages from the vendors and festival employees.  Some of the profits from subsequent festivals have gone toward paying those debts.

2020 Artist Line-Up

Musical acts on board to perform at this year’s festival include:

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers
  • Stevie Nicks
  • Dave Matthews Band
  • Miley Cyrus
  • Janelle Monae
  • Brandi Carlile
  • Khalid
  • The Avett Brothers
  • Jimmy Eat World
  • Blondie
  • Tegan & Sara
  • Iration
  • Michael Franti & Spearhead
  • Eric B. & Rakim
  • Hobo Johnson & the Lovemakers
  • Digable Planets

There are many more artists scheduled to perform.

Food & Drink

Napa Valley is home to world-renowned wineries and top-rated restaurants.  With Bottlerock being its largest annual showcase for the area, one would expect that the dining options throughout the festival would match Napa’s culinary reputation, and that is correct.  With over 39 food vendors listed on the website, attendees will have no shortage of dining options.  Some of the restaurants represented are:

  • Morimoto (sushi)
  • Ad Hoc (fried chicken)
  • Bonchon Bakery
  • Mustard Grill
  • Cole’s Chop House
  • The Farm at Carneros
  • Brix Restaurant
  • Burger Patch (all plant-based from Sacramento)
  • Mo’s (hot dogs)
  • The Farmer’s Wife
  • Gerard’s Paella
  • Ristorante Allegria
  • Goose & Gander

To wash down all the delicious meals, 17 wineries will be pouring, including favorites such as Rombauer and Domaine Chandon.  There will also be several breweries in attendance, a couple of bourbon houses, and craft cocktails will be available in abundance.

Spa Options

It may be apparent by now that this festival is slightly more “bougie” than most.  Spa treatments are not usually something one thinks of in association with a weekend-long music festival, but this is Napa and they do things their way.  During the festival, Carneros Resort & Spa will be offering massages and other services, Shampoo & Chardonnay will be on site for blow-outs and updos, and if you find you’ve had one too many glasses of pinot grigio, Rapid Recovery Hydration Therapy can set you up with a hangover helper IV.

Other Information

The festival will also include installations by several local artists.

For those festival-goers who think they can bring their young children and still have a good time, there is a “Little Rockers Zone” from 11:30 a.m.to 6:00 p.m., during which time family-friendly activities will be offered.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Getting There

The event is held at the Napa Valley Expo, located at 575 3rd Street.  There are VIP and general admission parking options.  There is also parking available on the streets in downtown Napa.  The event organizers encourage carpooling and bus service is available from the following cities:

  • San Francisco
  • Sacramento
  • Oakland
  • San Jose
  • Fairfield
  • Mill Valley
  • Palo Alto
  • Santa Rosa
  • Sonoma
