Big Rig Hits Turlock Apartment
I’m Ed Smith, a prominent Stockton rig injury lawyer. One person died after a big rig crashed into a Turlock Apartment complex on Thursday, May 5, 2016.
What Happened?
At about 10:00 a.m., a deadly truck accident occurred in the area of Lander Avenue just off Highway 99 in Turlock.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating why the driver of a large commercial truck traveling northbound along Highway 99 suddenly veered off the road. After going off-road, the big rig barreled into a concrete highway sound wall and a perimeter fence enclosing the Avena Bella Apartments. The truck struck two pillars holding up the apartment’s parking structure and crashed into some parked cars.
One of the cars had a driver inside. The driver was taken to the hospital, suffering what appeared to be only minor injuries.
What About the Truck Driver?
Sadly, the big rig driver died due to the severe injuries he received when his truck crashed.
What Caused the Truck Driver to Crash?
It is too early in the CHP’s investigation to tell. Occasionally truck driver negligence can be involved. This sometimes occurs when truck drivers are driving drowsy, driving distracted, or the truck is improperly loaded.
Sometimes trucking accidents occur due to other motorists trying to maneuver around a big resulting in an accident.
Many trucks are equipped with black box devices and video recorders. Sometimes the data and video footage can assist in the investigation process.

Was Anyone Hurt Inside Their Apartment?
No. Aside from property damage in the parking lot and on the exterior of the apartment complex, no one appeared injured other than the motorist sitting inside a vehicle in the parking lot when the truck crashed onto the premises. Thankfully, that person is expected to make a full recovery.
