Big Rig Collision Tracy

I’m Ed Smith, a Tracy truck accident lawyer. A big rig transporting bags of packaged salad mix was traveling along Interstate 5 in Tracy during the morning of Friday, March 17, 2017. The motorist of the big rig was driving in the right lane and was unable to avoid an alleged slow-moving truck carrying honey ahead of them. This, unfortunately, resulted in a big rig collision.

What Happened?

A motorist of a big rig was traveling northbound along Interstate 5 in the vicinity of Kasson Road at about 4:30 am. The motorist was driving at freeway speeds in the right lane when they were approaching a truck towing a forklift and a utility trailer loaded with beehives traveling slowly on the roadway. The motorist attempted to avoid the bee truck by swerving to the left lane. However, it was too late and the big rig crashed into the bee truck.

Big Rig Catches Fire

The big rig moved to the left lane and crashed in the median where it later caught fire. The impact from the big rig caused the bee truck to spill its load and dump approximately 300 pounds of honey across the highway. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) closed northbound Interstate 5 because the debris-covered both lanes. A beekeeper was called to the scene to remove the beehives off the roadway and clean the honey with street cleaner and sand.

Was Anybody Injured?

The motorist of the big rig carrying the packaged salad mix suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital in Manteca. The condition of the truck driver has not yet been released.

Truck Accidents

It is the obligation of all motorists, including truckers, to keep a lookout on the flow of traffic ahead of them. If a motorist fails to do so and causes a collision, they may be held responsible for all damages that result. It is best to discuss this with an experienced personal injury attorney for more information.
