Man Injured in Big Rig Collision at Hwy 99 and Hwy 20 in Yuba City

A man was hospitalized after his vehicle was struck in a Big Rig collision at Hy 99 and Hwy 20 in Yuba City on Sunday, November 2, 2025. The crash occurred at the busy intersection of Highway 99 and Highway 20, according to the Yuba City Police Department.

Officials reported that a witness saw the elderly driver traveling southbound on Highway 99 before attempting a left turn onto eastbound Highway 20. The witness stated the man failed to stop for a red light before entering the intersection.

At that moment, a 35-year-old semi-truck driver was traveling northbound through a green light on Highway 99. Police said the truck driver attempted to brake but was unable to avoid the oncoming Buick Verano. The man driving the Buick was 94-years-old. The truck driver was not injured in the crash.

Authorities say speed and impairment do not appear to be factors. The collision remains under active investigation.

Safety Reminder: Staying Alert at Major Highway Intersections

Intersections connecting high-speed routes like Hwy 99 and Hwy 20 can be particularly dangerous due to heavy traffic and the presence of large commercial vehicles. Drivers can reduce their risk by:

  • Stopping fully and checking twice before entering a busy intersection.
  • Avoiding left turns on late or changing signals, especially when visibility is limited.
  • Remembering that semi-trucks require significantly longer distances to stop due to their size and weight.
  • Maintaining awareness of cross-traffic, even when you have the right of way.

Taking a few extra seconds to ensure an intersection is completely clear can prevent life-altering collisions.

Why Hiring a Personal Injury Attorney Matters After a Serious Crash

Collisions involving large commercial vehicles can result in severe injuries and complex insurance issues. Trucking companies often have their own legal teams working to protect their interests, which can make navigating the aftermath overwhelming for injured victims and their families. An experienced personal injury attorney can help by:

  • Investigating fault and gathering evidence, including traffic light timing, witness statements, and truck inspection records.
  • Dealing with commercial insurance carriers who may attempt to minimize payouts.
  • Ensuring medical bills, lost income, and long-term care needs are fully accounted for.
  • Protecting your rights from the very beginning of the claims process.

Quality legal representation can make the difference between a low settlement and full, fair compensation.
