Bicyclist Killed in Collision with Motor Vehicle in Berkeley

Bicyclist Died in Berkeley Accident

On February 8, 2017, an early morning collision between a motor vehicle and a bicyclist in North Berkeley resulted in the death of the unidentified man riding the bicycle. The accident occurred about 7:00 a.m. along Sacramento Street near Ada Street in Berkeley. A witness to the accident who was passing by said he arrived just after the accident occurred and found the bicyclist lying prone on the ground. He said he discovered the man was not breathing and had no pulse.

Witness Account of Fatal Accident

This witness reported that he performed chest compressions on the cyclist until Berkeley emergency personnel arrived a short time later. He said that cars traveling northbound commonly merge in this area. The witness speculated that the early hour, the rain, and the fact that the cyclist was not wearing a helmet might have contributed to his death.

Investigation Ongoing as to Cause

The male driver of the vehicle involved in the deadly collision stayed at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with authorities. The Berkeley Police Department investigation team will be in charge of determining the cause of the accident.
