Bicyclist Flees Police and Crashes into Vehicle in South Sacramento
A bicyclist flees police and crashes into vehicle in South Sacramento. On early Friday, August 28, 2025, just after 12:30 a.m., a late-night traffic stop escalated into a pursuit and crash, when a bicyclist ran a red light and collided with a vehicle in South Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
The incident began near 24th Street and Fruitridge Road, when officers attempted to stop a man riding a bicycle for a traffic violation. Instead of complying, the rider fled and entered the intersection against a red light, where he struck a passing vehicle.
Police Response and Arrest
Following the collision, the suspect fled the scene on foot but was quickly detained by officers a short distance away. Authorities confirmed he sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators later determined the man was on active parole, had multiple outstanding warrants, and was in possession of narcotics. Once medically cleared, he was booked into jail on related charges.
Community Safety Reminder
Incidents like this highlight the risks posed when individuals fail to obey traffic laws—whether driving a car, riding a bicycle, or walking. Running red lights and attempting to evade law enforcement not only endangers the individual but also places innocent motorists and pedestrians at risk of serious injury.
The public is reminded to:
- Obey all traffic signals, even when cycling.
- Avoid fleeing law enforcement, as it compounds legal consequences.
- Stay alert at intersections, where most collisions occur.
