Auburn Man Involved in Fatal Grass Valley Crash

Auburn Man Involved in Fatal Grass Valley Crash

A man from Auburn was involved in a serious crash that happened in the Grass Valley area on Friday, March 22, 2019. Reports from California Highway Patrol (CHP) state that the accident left one person with fatal trauma. The identity of the fatally injured man has not yet been released by authorities of Nevada County. The accident reportedly involved only one vehicle and police say they suspect the crash was caused by negligent driving and the involved driver was arrested at the scene of the crash. I’d like to offer my condolences to the grieving family of the person who tragically passed away during this crash.

Crash Details

The accident happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Highway 49 around ten miles south of Grass Valley. A 28-year-old Auburn man had been driving a 2006 Honda Civic on the highway. Reports say that the vehicle was traveling at an “extremely high” speed. As the Honda entered a curve, the driver lost control. The vehicle drove off of the road close to the Lime Kiln Road intersection and crashed into a roadside embankment, overturning and traveling about 40 feet down into a ravine. Officers say that, while they know the vehicle was traveling at high speeds, they are unable to estimate the miles per hour.

Responders reportedly had a difficult time finding the vehicle because it had crashed into a thick patch of vegetation at the bottom of the embankment. When officers found the vehicle, they discovered that the front passenger, who had not been wearing a seatbelt, sustained severe injuries during the accident. Tragically, the passenger passed away at the scene and was declared deceased by medics.

Arrest

The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene of the crash on a felony count of vehicular manslaughter. He was released from police custody to be given medical attention at the Sutter Roseville Medical Center. After he was treated for his injuries, the man was transferred back into police custody and remains booked into the Nevada County jail.
