Two Injured in Rollover Crash Near Arena Blvd

On the morning of Tuesday, May 30, 2017, a rollover crash took place right by the Arena Boulevard Exit on Interstate 5. Only one car was involved in the rollover crash that injured two people. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.

What We Know

Just after 6:00 a.m. Tuesday Morning, an SUV crashed near the off-ramp of Arena Boulevard on Interstate 5. The driver crashed into the center median causing the car to spin out and rollover. The car was carrying one other passenger along with the driver. Both individuals were taken to a hospital. The passenger suffered traumatic injuries and the driver is receiving treatment for moderate injuries. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is still investigating what exactly caused the crash and details have yet to be released. The southbound lanes of I-5 were slowed following the accident but were all opened a couple of hours afterward.

Common Reasons for Accidents

There are many ways that a car accident can occur. Every driver on the road is responsible for not only being aware of his or her surroundings but also maintaining the roadworthiness of the vehicle.

Here are some of the most common causes of car accidents.

Distracted Driving

It is an unfortunate truth that many drivers spend more time distracted by activities or devices in the car than paying attention to the road. Being unaware of what is going on around you, especially when traveling at high rates of speeds, will almost certainly lead to a car accident. When operating a vehicle on even local roads, there are many times when a driver only has fractions of a second to make a decision when needing to avoid danger. Through maintaining your eyes on the road, you gain the greatest amount of time to react to a potentially dangerous situation and avoid injury. Distracted driving includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:

  • Eating food
  • Using a GPS system
  • Reading a book or newspaper
  • Applying makeup
  • Texting or using a mobile device in any way

A driver should either wait to participate in these activities or pull over to the side of the road if it is urgent. Maintain the safety of the roads by keeping your eyes on the pavement.

Speeding

Speeding decreases a driver’s ability to react and stop quickly. It also can increase the risk of other cars misjudging their timing when pulling out in front of a speeding vehicle. Over 55,000 accidents involving excessive speed happen annually in the state of California. Accidents that involve excessive speed are also more likely to result in traumatic injuries to all parties involved.

Manufacturer Defects

Due to my work as a Sacramento Auto Defects Lawyer, I have seen many cases were manufacture defects result in a car accident causing serious injury of someone in the vehicle. I know the importance of holding vehicle manufacturers accountable for high safety standards for each individual product they make. A high standard of crashworthiness can save lives and prevent injury for all those who experience a car accident. Many auto defects only manifest themselves in the event of an accident. It is important to stay up-to-date with recall notices from your vehicle manufacturer. This helps maintain the crashworthiness of your vehicle.

Driving Under the Influence

In the state of California, over 12,000 individuals suffer fatal injuries annually due to someone driving under the influence. These tragic accidents are not always due to alcohol but can be the result of using strong pain medications, marijuana, or other illicit drugs. If you have used a substance that impairs your ability to drive even slightly, play it safe by letting a friend drive or calling a cab.
