Fatality and Injuries Reported in Antelope Rollover Accident Involving Three Teens

An Antelope rollover accident occurred recently involving a sedan with three minors inside, killing one and injuring the other two. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision happened at Antelope Road and Antelope North Road around 9:00 p.m. When the collision occurred, the teens were going west on Antelope Road.

Sedan Hits Truck in Antelope Rollover Accident

For unknown reasons, the vehicle changed lanes and struck a truck. The sedan rolled over and struck a pole. The vehicle driver died, and his younger brother sustained major injuries. The third passenger, a female, was reported in critical condition.

Authorities Determining Cause of Fatality and Injury Collision

The truck driver was uninjured. Authorities do not believe intoxication was a factor in the rollover collision but think speeding and distracted driving might be involved. The investigation into the cause of the Antelope rollover accident is underway by CHP traffic detectives.

Injuries and Fatalities in an Accident Involving Minors

When minors are injured or killed in an accident, the parents or guardians may be held liable under California Vehicle Code 17708. In this instance, the minor must have been given permission from the guardian or parent to drive the vehicle, which makes them jointly responsible if accident injuries or fatalities occur due to negligence. The guardian or parent who would be liable would be the one who signed the minor’s application for a driver’s license.

Causes of a Rollover Accident Other Than Driver Negligence

Instances occur where the driver of a vehicle was not negligent, and the Antelope rollover accident was due to another entity. For example:

  • Negligence in roadway maintenance can lead to a collision. In these cases, a pothole, object in the roadway, debris or even poor lighting could cause a crash. An injury lawyer can investigate the accident to determine if roadway neglect led to or was a factor in a collision. If so, a claim may be placed against the municipal or other government entity in charge. There is a limited time to file government claims set at six months from the date of the crash. Getting help from an accident attorney can help ensure the paperwork is filed on time.
  • A defective part in the motor vehicle can cause an accident. Defects such as brake, steering or accelerator problems may lead to a loss of vehicle control. Keeping the vehicle intact is important so professionals can examine it. If a defect caused the collision, an auto product liability claim may be pursued against the manufacturer and others.
