Antelope Motorcycle Crash Injures Biker

On December 29, an Antelope motorcycle crash with a red sedan resulted in the hospitalization of the biker due to injuries to his lower legs. The accident occurred at the intersection of Ridge Rim Court and Black Eagle Drive, close to Lone Oak Park. The injured man, age 40, and whose name was not given, was transported to the Mercy San Juan Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment for his injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Details of the Antelope Motorcycle Crash

The CHP reported that the accident happened shortly before 11:00 a.m., when emergency responders concluded that the injured man required hospitalization for his injuries. No mention was made about whether the driver of the motor vehicle remained at the accident scene and cooperated with investigators into the crash. An ongoing investigation by the CHP will determine fault in the accident and how it occurred.

Defending Your Rights in an Antelope Motorcycle Crash

Many injuries to motorcycle riders are caused each year by negligent drivers. The most common type of accident is caused when a motorist makes a turn into the path of a cyclist. Head-on collisions and rear-end accidents are also common. An injury lawyer experienced in motorcycle accidents can help by determining how the collision happened and will work hard to obtain fair compensation for those injuries. This will help pay for medical expenses, lost time from work and the pain and suffering the motorcyclist experienced.

Motor Vehicles Versus Motorcycles

When a motorcyclist is injured in an accident that involves a motor vehicle, serious injuries are common. While the driver of a motor vehicle has the added protection of being surrounded by heavy metal and safety devices such as seat belts and airbags to reduce injury risk, the motorcycle rider has none of these. In many cases, an Antelope motorcycle crash is caused by a negligent driver, and a common excuse is that the driver never saw the bike. However, when negligence is involved, a rider can place a claim for fair compensation.

Accident Injuries to a Motorcyclist

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and others, have conducted studies on what injuries are most common when a motorcyclist is injured in a collision. These injuries include:

  • The legs and feet become injured in 30 percent of all motorcycle crashes. From broken fibula, tibias and femurs to breaks in the feet, road rash, large cuts and severe bruising, this type of injury can cause time away from work, require surgical repair and a long recuperative period.
  • Upper extremity injuries include broken bones in the wrists, followed by arm fractures.
  • Head and neck injuries occur in 22 percent of motorcycle crashes. Traumatic brain injury, spinal cord damage, and facial trauma are among the most serious and can cause lifelong disabilities. Wearing a motorcycle helmet while riding has been proven to greatly reduce the number and severity of injuries in an Antelope motorcycle crash.
  • Chest injuries occur in 6 percent of motorcycle accidents. These may involve deep bruising, broken ribs, punctured lungs, and heart damage.
