Anderson Man Killed in Redding Crash

I’m Ed Smith, an Anderson car accident lawyer. A collision that took place in Redding on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, left one man with injuries that cost him his life. Redding Police Department (RPD) officers reported that the collision involved two individuals and that the second person suffered injuries requiring hospital care. The fatally injured driver of the vehicle was identified by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, July 12, 2018, as Jordan Ray Hiland, a 35-year-old resident of Anderson. My sympathy and support are sent out to Hiland’s grieving loved ones as they endure this difficult time of loss.

Accident Details

According to reports from RPD, the accident took place at about 5:00 p.m. near the intersection of Presidio Street and Churn Creek Road. Hiland had been driving a 2006 Honda Pilot in the area when his vehicle suddenly traveled off of the road. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle drove into a nearby canal located on the east side of Churn Creek road in front of St. Luke’s Anglican Church. Reports state that the Honda was damaged heavily, mostly on the front drivers’ side.

Response

RPD officers reported that responders found Hiland at the scene with severe trauma. Despite the best efforts of emergency medics, Hiland tragically lost his life at the accident scene. The passenger was reportedly found with minor injuries but was taken to the Mercy Medical Center in order to receive care as well as screening for more serious trauma.

Investigation

Traffic in the area slowed dramatically as RPD officers responded to the accident and conducted investigations. Officers have been able to determine that Hiland was driving north on Churn Creek Road and had been just south of the intersection when his car veered off of the road. A full investigation is still being conducted and officers have not yet said what factors they suspect to have been involved.

RPD has asked that anyone who has information about this accident that could help officers with their investigation call the non-emergency phone number (530) 225-4200 to report what they know.

Understanding Wrongful Death Claims

The sudden loss of a family member or loved one can be devastating emotionally. However, losing someone in an accident also often leaves families with hefty medical bills and other serious losses. For this reason, when people lose their lives in accidents caused by the negligence of other parties, those at-fault can be held responsible through what are called “wrongful death claims.” To learn more about what wrongful death claims are, you can watch this informative video:
