Alleged DUI Crash in Redding Causes Deadly Injuries
On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, one person tragically lost their lives following an alleged DUI crash that took place in Redding. According to reports from the Redding Police Department (RPD), the crash happened in the afternoon and involved two separate vehicles. In addition to the decedent, two other individuals sustained injuries as a result of the crash.
Crash Information
The accident reportedly happened at around 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Oasis Road and Lake Boulevard. A 31-year-old woman was driving a Buick Riviera southbound on Lake and was preparing to make a left-hand turn through a green light in order to enter Oasis. At this time, a 24-year-old man from Shasta Lake was driving north on Lake in a Toyota 4Runner. According to police, the Toyota driver ran the red light at the Lake/Oasis intersection and crashed into the Buick.
After the Toyota crashed into the Buick, it overturned and rolled until it crashed into a light pole located on the intersection’s northeast corner.
Response
Emergency responders at the crash scene found that both the driver and passenger of the Toyota were trapped inside of the wrecked vehicle. Firefighters conducted an emergency extrication in order to free them, and medical officials determined that both had been seriously injured. Tragically, the passenger, 19-year-old Jimmie Junior Adkison II of Redding, was pronounced deceased on-scene. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of Jimmie Adkison to help pay for final resting expenses.
The Toyota driver was placed under arrest on charges related to driving under the influence of drugs. After being placed under arrest, the driver was released into the custody of medical responders and driven to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. At the time of reporting, he was still at the hospital.
The driver of the sedan reportedly suffered minor injuries during the accident and whether or not she received hospital care was not reported.
