Two Injured in Plane Crash

Two people were hospitalized with airplane crash injuries in Sacramento. One of the injured parties is in critical condition. This happened when their small plane crashed into the American River near Interstate 5 on January 2 shortly after 11:30 in the morning. The incident was reported by a caller to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), which contacted the Sacramento Fire Department to meet them at the reported crash location near Discovery Park. According to the report, a man and woman were on board the plane when it crashed into the river. It is unknown at this time which hospital the couple was taken to or the nature of their airplane crash injuries.

General Aviation Fatality Rate

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, they are working toward making flying safer to avoid airplane crash injuries. Since over 220,000 aircraft operate within the United States as of 2018, the aim is to reduce the number of stalls, which accounted for the deaths of 347 people in 2017, caused by 209 separate accidents.

Stalling That Can Cause Airplane Crash Injuries

Stalling in an airplane is different from that experienced in a motor vehicle that affects the engine. In an airplane, stalling means that the ability to lift the plane, which is required for flight, is missing. This means an airplane, already airborne will not continue to fly. In a stall, the airflow over and under the wing becomes disrupted. Changes in the flaps and gear, the weight being carried and other factors can lead to a stall. When a plane stalls, it may pitch nose downward, yaw or roll and go into a spin. Stall warning systems may be the first indication of this problem, which may be an audible warning or stick shaker.

Negligence That Can Cause an Airplane to Crash

A number of factors can contribute to a plane crash. Any of these factors can cause traumatic injuries. These include:

  • Improper deicing
  • Defective parts such as the speed indicator or stall warning system
  • Damaged or poorly maintained electrical wiring that shorts out
  • Poor ground maintenance
  • Poorly trained pilot or a flyer who is not authorized in certain weather conditions
  • Lack of refueling
  • Meteorological conditions
  • Pilot error

Types of Injuries That Can Occur in a Plane Crash

Plane crash injuries can be more severe than other types of accidents. One reason is because of the speed of a plane when it collides with a solid object or water. Another reason is the lack of safety features for the plane’s occupants other than seat restraints. Some of the injuries that may be incurred are as follows:

Consulting an Attorney to Claim Damages in an Airplane Crash

Planes are complex and require regular routine maintenance to fly safely, and many things can go wrong that requires a detailed investigation to prove fault. An injury attorney experienced in airplane crashes, along with FAA authorities, can help by investigating the accident. By proving fault, those who are injured may obtain fair compensation for their airplane crash injuries.
