Charter Bus Crash Causes Heavy Traffic on Highway 99 in San Joaquin County

RIPON, CA — A collision involving a charter bus and two or more other vehicles created significant traffic congestion along Highway 99 in San Joaquin County Thursday morning, Sept. 10.

Video from local news showed the charter bus stopped in the south-bound lanes close to the Jack Tone Road on-ramp. The bus had substantial damage to a portion of its windshield, while debris was scattered around the crash scene. Two additional vehicles also appeared to have sustained damage, though more may have been involved. Fire department crews responded to the scene.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) traffic logs, the crash was called in around 7:35 a.m. Although vehicles continued moving through the area, traffic was heavily backed up as motorists passed the crash site.

CHP logs indicated that multiple people aboard the charter bus may have reported injuries. At this time, those injuries appear to be minor.

A pickup truck was also involved in the collision and overturned, according to the CHP.

The circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately available, and the investigation remains ongoing.
