Accidents May 29

TRACY, CA – A tragic multi-vehicle crash in Tracy early Tuesday morning, May 25, claimed the life of a 22-year-old local man, according to police.

The Tracy Police Department said its Communications Center began receiving calls around 12:15 a.m. reporting a serious collision near the intersection of Tracy Boulevard and Grant Line Road.

People at the scene told authorities that one of the vehicles had become totally engulfed in flames and that several occupants were trapped inside the damaged cars.

When officers arrived, they immediately worked to rescue the driver from the burning vehicle, police said. Emergency crews discovered that two vehicles had been involved in the crash, with one consumed by fire.

Although officers were able to pull the driver from the vehicle and medics began lifesaving efforts, the young man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not publicly released his name, but confirmed he was a 22-year-old Tracy resident.

The two occupants in the second vehicle suffered major injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the collision.

SONORA, CA – A Modesto man suffered serious bodily injuries Saturday afternoon, May 23, following a motorcycle crash along State Route 108 near Sonora, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred close to 4:30 p.m. near Confidence and South Fork roads, CHP said in a news release. Investigators reported that a 48-year-old man, identified as Havinder Singh, was driving an Indian Scout motorcycle eastward on Highway 108 when the motorcycle veered off the road.

Authorities said the motorcycle struck both a road sign and a tree, causing Singh to be thrown from the bike.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, and Singh was later airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries for further treatment. We hope for his quick and full recovery.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and CHP said it has not yet been determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA – In Stanislaus County, a portion of Interstate 5 faced partial closures Thursday morning, May 28, following two unrelated crashes involving more than one big rig truck, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Modesto division.

One of the collisions occurred on northbound I-5 near the off-ramp of Sperry Avenue and Diablo Grande Parkway. CHP’s traffic logs show the crash, which involved an overturned semi-truck blocking a lane, was first reported close to 5:45 a.m.

A second crash was later reported around 6:10 a.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near Oak Flat Road. Authorities said multiple big rigs were involved in that collision as well. Photos shared by CHP showed what appeared to be significant damage to at least two semi-trucks.

As crews continued investigating and clearing the area, CHP Modesto announced that the right lane of northbound I-5 would remain closed from Fink Road to Sperry Avenue until all hazards were eliminated.

LOS BANOS, CA – A big rig crash on Wednesday morning, May 28, resulted in damage to a power pole and sparked a small grass fire, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Los Banos office.

CHP said the collision occurred when the driver was unable to safely navigate a curve in the roadway. The big rig left its intended path and struck a power pole, which led to a small grass fire in the area.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the driver was transported for medical treatment. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the severity of the driver’s injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, CHP said.

Following the incident, the agency reminded motorists of the importance of staying focused behind the wheel and consistently wearing seat belts to help reduce the risk of serious injuries in traffic collisions.
