STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA — A tragic accident claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman early Saturday morning in Stanislaus County, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Authorities received a call shortly after 11 a.m. about a serious collision on rural West Grayson Road near Shiloh Road, just outside of Modesto.
When emergency responders arrived, they found a 2015 Kia sedan and a big rig, both with significant damage.
According to a preliminary investigation, the Kia had been pulling out of a driveway belonging to Camp Taylor, a nonprofit, onto West Grayson Road at the intersection with Shiloh Road. The big rig was traveling eastbound on West Grayson. For reasons still under investigation, the Kia entered the roadway and was struck on the passenger side by the approaching big rig.
Tragically, the driver of the Kia—a young woman from Modesto—was pronounced dead at the scene. She was just 19 years old. The driver of the big rig, a 38-year-old man from Merced, was not injured.
CHP confirmed that both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and at this time, neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have played a role in the crash.
Our thoughts are with the young woman’s family, friends, and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss.
