MODESTO, CA — A tragic accident in Modesto has claimed the life of a Turlock man, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash took place around 10:14 a.m. at the intersection of South Carpenter Road and West Monte Vista Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a Toyota sedan and a tractor-trailer involved in the collision.

Sadly, the driver of the sedan—a 34-year-old man—suffered fatal injuries and passed away at the scene. The driver of the big rig was not hurt.

According to CHP, the Toyota had been traveling eastbound on Monte Vista Avenue and entered the intersection at South Carpenter Road, where there is a stop sign. The sedan was then struck by the big rig. It remains unclear whether the driver of the Toyota had stopped before entering the intersection.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones during this exceptionally difficult time.
