GALT, CA – Our thoughts are with the individual injured in a serious crash that occurred early Thursday morning in Galt. According to local officials, the collision involved two vehicles and happened at approximately 6:26 a.m. near the intersection of Ayers Lane and Carol Drive.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find a man who had been ejected from a pickup truck involved in the crash. He was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Galt Police Department.
Police investigators determined that the crash occurred when a speeding pickup truck did not stop at a stop sign and hit another vehicle that was lawfully turning at the intersection. The force of the impact caused the pickup to go airborne and land on its side.
Authorities confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not contributing factors in the collision.

OAKDALE, CA – On Sunday, August 17, 2025, a car accidentally crashed into the ASTRO Foundation animal shelter, located on Stearns Road in Oakdale, California. Thankfully, no people or animals were harmed in the incident. However, a few of the shelter’s cats managed to escape during the confusion.
The ASTRO Foundation — short for Animal Shelter to Riverbank & Oakdale — provides vital animal services to the communities of Oakdale and Riverbank. Emergency responders from the Modesto Fire Department arrived at the scene just before 2 p.m.
As of Monday morning, two of the missing cats have been safely recovered, but four are still unaccounted for. Shelter staff and volunteers are doing everything they can to locate and bring them home safely.
The car entered the building through an exterior window into the pet adoption area. While the cause of the crash is still being investigated, the ASTRO Foundation has confirmed that no staff members or volunteers were injured. Out of an abundance of caution, the building will remain closed until further notice.
We’re immensely grateful no people or animals were injured, but this incident demonstrates that accidents can happen out of nowhere – too often, with serious results.

Modesto Reinstating Red Light Cameras: A Step Toward Safer Roadways
As a law firm dedicated to supporting victims of traffic accidents, we’ve seen firsthand the devastating impact of preventable crashes on Modesto families. That’s why we view the City Council’s recent decision to reintroduce red light cameras at high-risk intersections as a significant and compassionate step toward protecting the community.
Earlier this week, the Modesto City Council approved a 5-year, $3.7 million contract with Verra Mobility to install and manage red light enforcement cameras at 10 of the city’s most dangerous intersections—locations that have tragically seen some of the highest collision rates in the region.
Modesto Among the Most Dangerous Cities for Drivers
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, Modesto has consistently rated among the worst cities of its size for crashes resulting in injuries and fatalities over the last five years, holding the #1 position in three of them. These statistics represent real lives lost, families changed forever, and pain that no amount of legal action can fully undo.
City officials say the initiative, proposed by Modesto PD in early 2025, is not about punishment—it’s about prevention. Councilman Chris Ricci put it simply: “Modesto has really suffered over the years with traffic accidents and fatalities. We don’t want to be on a top ten list like that.”
The camera program, subsidized through the city’s Traffic Safety Fund and revenue culled via citations, is designed to reduce red-light running—one of the leading causes of serious intersection collisions. While some residents have raised concerns about fines, city officials have made it clear: the goal is saving lives, not generating revenue.
Importantly, the program will include a 30-day warning period to help drivers adjust, and all potential violations will be reviewed by Modesto police officers before citations are issued—ensuring fairness and accountability.
The intersections selected for camera installation include:
- Briggsmore Ave & Coffee Rd
- Sylvan Ave & Coffee Rd
- Briggsmore Ave & Carver Rd
- Pelandale Ave & Carver Rd
- Oakdale Rd & Briggsmore Ave
- McHenry Ave & Standiford Ave
- Oakdale Rd & Scenic Dr
- Carpenter Rd & Kansas Ave
- Ninth St & G St
- Yosemite Blvd & South Santa Rosa Ave
Modesto previously implemented a red light camera program from 2004 to 2014, but it was halted due to police staffing deficiencies. With proper staffing and oversight now in place, this updated program is poised to be far more effective and equitable. With luck, this measure will greatly reduce the incidence of car crashes in Modesto, and related injuries and fatalities.
